You might be surprised — or even shocked — by what’s floating around about you online. Dozens of “people finder” websites, like Spokeo, collect and post personal details such as your phone number, home address, birthdate, relatives, and even court records.
The scary part? Anyone can access this information with just a quick search.
The good news is you can opt out — but it’s not automatic. Each site requires a separate request, which can be time-consuming. There are services like PrivacyDuck or DeleteMe that will handle removals for you, but they aren’t free and may not cover every site.
Our recommendation: start by searching your own name online to see what’s already being shared publicly. From there, take steps to opt out where you can. Even if you can’t erase everything, reducing what’s available makes it harder for cybercriminals and scammers to exploit your information.
