Cyber Alert Regarding Ukraine ConflictAs hostilities in the Ukraine have continued to escalate, we have received numerous bulletins from our partners at Homeland Security, the FBI and other agencies warning of potential cyber-attacks against the US and other NATO countries. There have already been reports of ransomware and other cyber-attacks in Canada, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Belarus, and Poland. Considering these attacks, we are reaching out to everyone in our database to share some of the guidance we are receiving from these agencies.

  1. Ensure you have an enterprise-grade anti-phishing solution in place. Traditional Business Email Gateways like the default spam filters for Office 365 and Google are not adept at catching these sophisticated email attacks.
  2. Ensure all systems are protected with next generation endpoint protection that includes both application control and storage control. Today’s threats and nation-state sponsored attacks are much more sophisticated than most traditional antivirus solutions can handle. You need a solution that not only protects against known threats, but that also limits applications that can run on your networks to those that you approve.
  3. Review all firewall rules to ensure that no systems are unnecessarily exposed to the internet. You should never have protocols like Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) directly exposed to the internet. If your team needs remote access to servers or workstations, there are secure options available.
  4. Ensure that all computers, servers, and firewalls have the most up-to-date patches or firmware installed. Keeping systems up to date on patches is one of the most effective tools that we all have in fighting cyber-attacks.
